Where to find and unlock Espers

Unlock Siren at Siren's Tower in Grandshelt through the Chapter 1 story battle, then follow the later chapter routes to collect the remaining Espers. Carbuncle is the exception: collecting its Ruby Fragments in order unlocks the Esper without a boss fight.

This checklist covers the full-game Esper collection. The demo covers the opening through Chapter 1, so the later chapter routes below extend beyond its scope. Obtaining all nine Espers also completes The Sovereigns of the Planet achievement.

Start with Siren and Ramuh

  1. Follow the story to the Chapter 1 finale at Siren's Tower in Grandshelt. Win the story battle there to unlock Siren and begin your Esper collection.
  2. During Chapter 2, take the upper entrance to Mt. Thunderclap in Dirnado. Follow the upper route to the gravestone encounter, then win the battle to unlock Ramuh.
04

Collect Carbuncle's Ruby Fragments in order

Carbuncle's Chapter 3 route centers on Ruby Cave in Olderion and an ordered Ruby Fragment collection. Follow the stops below in sequence, then return to the cave. Completing the puzzle unlocks Carbuncle without an Esper battle.

  1. Collect the first Ruby Fragment southeast of Rukh Cave, between the pools.
  2. Next, collect the Ruby Fragment on the eastern coast, southwest of Squall's Sanctum.
  3. Collect the final Ruby Fragment west of the Olderion waterfalls, keeping this stop after the coastal fragment.
  4. Return to Ruby Cave after collecting the fragments in order to finish the puzzle and unlock Carbuncle.
05

Obtain the Gaia Hammer and unlock Titan

  1. During Chapter 4, obtain the Gaia Hammer by winning Colosseum Fledgling Battle 5. Make this your preparation target before heading out for Titan.
  2. With the Gaia Hammer obtained, go to the Sealing Stone west of Village of Kol in Grandshelt. Defeat Titan there to unlock the Esper.
06

Reach the airship destinations and later trials

  1. For Ifrit, obtain the airship in Chapter 5 and fly to the smoking volcano in southern Zoldaad. Enter using the airship, then win the encounter to unlock the Esper.
  2. For Shiva, use the airship during Chapter 5 to reach the snowstorm on the western Mysidia island. Win the battle at this destination to unlock Shiva.
  3. For Leviathan, follow Nichol's personal quest in Olderion during Chapter 5. Complete Nichol's Duty to unlock the Esper.
  4. For Odin, progress through the Gronoa story purification in Chapter 6 and clear the miasma. Go to Bladerain Stele and complete Iron Splitter to unlock Odin.
  5. For Bahamut, speak with Evan beside the airship controls during Chapter 7. Select the Esper visit, then win the encounter to add Bahamut to your collection.
07

Prepare Espers and Visions for different jobs

Espers are a separate summon collection usable in battle by Fina and Archwitch Fina. Visions are equippable, job-like battle partners that expand a character's abilities and mastery options. Use that distinction when preparing your party: an Esper unlock adds a summon option, while Vision development shapes a character's broader skill set.

Esper effects include elemental attacks and utility effects such as Carbuncle's Reflect. Choose your summon around what the encounter needs, and use Visions to build the party's everyday coverage. Keep healing, protection, and ways to exploit enemy weaknesses in mind when deciding which options deserve a place in your setup.
