Use Wind and prepare for physical attacks
Defeat Marauder by exploiting its Wind weakness to build stagger, while using Protect where available and keeping a dedicated healer ready for its physical attacks. Bring Paralysis recovery to deal with Body Slam so that an ailment does not derail your attack plan.
Where to find Marauder
Marauder is a level-15 Cave Master found in a cave on the Grandport-area island, east of Siren's Tower. The encounter is accessible during Chapter 1, including in the demo. You can attempt it during that opening chapter or leave it for a stronger party in the full game.
Prepare for Thwack, Bravery and Body Slam
Build your preparation around Marauder's physical damage. Thwack is a multi-hit move, while Bravery boosts its attack. Have Protect available if your current setup allows it, and give your healer a clear recovery role before starting a prolonged exchange.
Body Slam can inflict Paralysis, so carry recovery for that status before entering the fight. Check that your party also has access to Wind-element attacks. Your preparation should let you exploit the weakness while still answering damage and ailments when they interrupt your offense.
How to approach the fight
- Cast Protect where available to prepare for Marauder's physical attacks. Make this a priority when you expect the fight to become a prolonged exchange.
- Use Wind-element attacks to work toward a stagger. Marauder is weak to Wind, making that element the focus of your offensive plan.
- Prioritize recovery with your dedicated healer after dangerous physical hits. Thwack hits repeatedly, so judge your next action by the party's condition instead of committing automatically to more damage.
- Reassess your defensive needs when Marauder uses Bravery. Its attack boost is a reason to favor recovery over an aggressive action if your party is already struggling.
- Use Paralysis recovery if Body Slam inflicts the status. Addressing the ailment should take priority over continuing an attack sequence that no longer fits the party's condition.
- Use a powerful Resonance attack when the stagger gives you an opening. Exploiting weaknesses and breaking enemy defenses creates extra turns that help you press the advantage.
Marauder victory rewards
Victory rewards include a Turbo Ether, 500 EXP and 750 gil. Defeating Marauder also contributes toward Cave Master-related achievements. The encounter is optional, so winning is not required to continue the Chapter 1 storyline.
Return later if the fight outlasts your party
You can leave Marauder and return with higher levels and stronger Visions in the full game. Postponing the encounter does not block the Chapter 1 storyline. If your attempts keep turning into recovery with little room to attack, continue the story and revisit the cave after strengthening your party.
